The Monolith House

The Monolith House

Residential

A brutalist concrete retreat buried within a rocky hillside, designed to age and weather with the natural terrain.

Challenge

The extreme gradient of the site required deep bedrock anchoring, while the client requested minimal disruption to the existing topography.

Approach

We utilized board-formed concrete to mirror the verticality of the surrounding trees, sinking the primary living spaces below ground level to regulate temperature.

Solution

A three-story continuous volume that feels excavated rather than built, featuring massive travertine slabs and hidden courtyards.
